Port Hole Frame Tutorial
Afterward mulling over a few different means to construct these out of wood, motion picture frames, and various other materials I decided on the cheapest and most readily available product. Foam Core.
If you have no idea what I'g talking near I'k non surprised, the woman at Michael's looked at me like I had 3 heads likewise. I guess nearly people phone call it foam lath, but it is essentially 2 pieces of poster board with a foam sheet sandwiched between.
My husband is an architect and nosotros used this stuff all the fourth dimension to brand building models in higher. They chosen it foam core (possibly because information technology has a core of cream?? idk) Cream lath is a kind of insulation. And so that is how it has stayed in our house. I constitutional…
Anyway, information technology comes in different thicknesses and can be a (insert favorite expletive) to piece of work with if you are trying to be perfect. Looking closely you tin tell my circles are nowhere near what usually passes every bit round. Luckily this is for a kids room and it's OK that things are a bit wonky. Aye, they make a special cutter, but it'south $20 and my whole project only costs $10!
What you lot'll need for this project:
a sheet of foam core (mine is one/two inch thick)
x-acto or mat knife (very sharp)
spray paint (or paint of your choice, heck decoupage with paper if it matches what you need)
apartment thumbtacks (you tin pigment these to match)
ribbon the width of your foam (I think rope would be awesome for a transport theme, alas, I'm on a sub.)
hot glue
a big plate, compass, or cord to draw the circles
**Tip: one of my favorite means to draw a adept circle is by pushing a straight pin through one of my old measuring tapes. You lot can poke right through the plastic at whatever measurement you need, and then employ the hole in the end for your pencil.
Here we go…
Pace 1: Draw the outside circle of your port pigsty (I fit 3 with a 12 diameter on one sheet) six inch radius
Step 2: Draw the within circle (mine is ii inches between the two circle) 4 inch radius
This is a scrap then don't look at the measurements. |
Step 3: Cut on both lines (trying your hardest to keep the blade vertical and the curses to a minimum)
Step 4: Paint (or whatever yous are doing to comprehend the white.)
Step 5: Hot glue the ribbon around the inside and outside edges (fold the terminate nether for a clean terminate)
As y'all can see, my ribbon was non the same size as my cream. (who knew 1/ii inch was then hard to detect?) Instead of searching I just painted the dorsum edge with some navy acrylic and glued the ribbon to the forepart.
Step 6: Add the pollex tacks (I didn't measure, just laid them out upside downwards and eyeballed it)
Stride 7: Centre your moving-picture show and attach to the back (Good ol' scotch record)
Stride viii: Hang (I used command stickers and sticky tack)
Pace 9: Admire!
At present that you have a finished port hole, stop back tomorrow to acquire how to make the watercolors to become inside it. Even if you don't know a lick about painting, you lot can brand this fine art! And, if you don't really demand a "fish scene" the aforementioned process tin can be done with flowers, animals, cartoon characters, and more!
Thank you for visiting!
P.Due south. If you do endeavour this project, be sure to mail a flick to my new flicker group Your tART!
